Poetry — "Sunflower Milkshake," "A Wooden Bottle," and "I'm Sorry I can't Make It." This collection of short poems comes straight from my handwritten journal where I compose most of my verses.
Thank you! I pulled this poem originally from a collection I had been working on called “The Image of Her.”
The overarching premise of the collection was that it’s a drunken debate between two friends, one trying to convince the other not to call his ex. The narrator argues that his friend only loves “the image of her,” an idealized version of his failed relationship.
He makes his case by sharing his own love story with a woman called Elle, how he tried and failed to rekindle their relationship after life split them apart.
I loved the project, I just worried it would be a lot of time to dump into something people may not connect with
It's your art; dump all your energy into it! There's never any shame in that. Though of course, if it's the business side you're worried about, I respect the patience in ensuring it will link up well.
A Wooden Bottle is my favorite for so many reasons. The final two lines especially… they may need to be on a sign somewhere.
I'm Sorry I can't Make It was my favorite, but the sunflower drink was a very close second.
Thank you! I consider myself to be more of a traditional poet, writing rhyming verse. But the milkshakes one felt really fun
Very nice poems, man. Of course "I'm Sorry I Can't Make It" tops my list. Who hasn't been there?
