Spring Substack Sale
In response to Amazon's Spring Sale, I've compiled several amazing independent writers worthy of your time and support. Below, each has a quick bio, a sample story or essay, and an offer to share
The Pitch
Amazon just launched its Big Spring Sale, offering markdowns on an unfathomable ocean of consumer goods.
Whatever you buy, there’s an excellent chance that money lines the pockets of a behemoth so reviled by its own employees, an NYT report found the company is worried it may churn and burn through every worker on the planet.
Standing opposite the Mega Corporation, are the independent creators. Those on the list below probably have lives similar to yours. They have names, dreams, and passion for these creative projects. Your patronage can have a life-altering impact on these people.
In putting together the Substack Spring Sale, I humbly ask you consider supporting the following creators, of both fiction, and non-fiction works:
Cole Noble
It’s me! I publish speculative fiction weekly, exploring life’s struggles and oddities at the edge of what’s possible.
“The Killer Cookbook,” is a great example: a celebrity chef bites off more than she can chew when adding a secret ingredient to a dangerous man's meal.
Paid subscribers get access to my paywalled archive, exclusive premium-only stories in your inbox, and select posts delivered early!
Adrianna Nine
Adrianna writes “Creativity Under Capitalism,” about the struggle to make art in a world where companies want to push “content.” For a good sample of her work, check out “Do Not Disturb,” an essay about carving out time for your craft.
As a paid subscriber, you'll get special access to a monthly bonus issue from The Freelance Series, a section about the ways in which creative freelancing intersects with capitalism's various challenges.
Arthur T
Arthur writes on politics, history and current events. As a retired veteran from the GWOT era, he has traveled extensively around the world, and believes this helped broaden his perspectives on geopolitical affairs.
In this piece "Lost in a Moral Wasteland," he ponders the heavy moral quandary of one's actions in a warzone that are without defined terms and conditions for civilian non-combatants in the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
Paid subscribers will receive access to further content and future podcasts.
Jennie Robertson
Jennie’s Substack — Mercy, Maine, and Me — consists of short stories and essays and eventually a serialized novel about life in working-class Maine.
Check out her sample story, “Poodle PJ’s,” which offers a moving exploration of grief, and growing up. Click below to support Jennie’s work, and get access to her full archive of stories:
John Coon
John Coon is an accomplished author and journalist. As a journalist, he has written for the Associated Press, the Washington Post, the Boston Globe, the Los Angeles Times, and other notable publications worldwide.
As an author, he has published multiple popular novels including bestsellers Pandora Reborn and Alien People. Subscribe to his newsletter, Strange New Worlds to read original serials, short stories, poetry, and articles.
If you’re into Sci-Fi, check out “Rescuing Brownie,” a beautifully absurd tale about a man who invents time travel to rescue his missing childhood pet. If you like horror, try “Mulberry House,” a chilling story about trying to debunk the myth behind a haunted house. And if you enjoy one, or both, check out John’s novellas and short stories, on sale below:
JRR Jokien
Lore. Laugh. Lord of the Rings. Jokien with Tolkien is an often humorous, sometimes earnest, always genuine newsletter all about J.R.R. Tolkien and his works. Every month subscribers receive a mix of humorous sketches, in depth analysis, and celebration of the world of Middle-earth and its adaptations.
A great example of this humor can be found in his recent essay, "Tolkien and Lewis Bicker Over Fantasy."
Michael P. Marpaung
Michael writes science fiction and fantasy stories with a Catholic flavor. That being said, he believes that genre should not be a straitjacket for the story.
For a sample of Michael’s work, check out “Decennial,” which offers a profound glimmer of hope in a bleak and meaningless future.
He also has a full length book, “Inquisitor’s Promise.” Here’s the trailer:

Patricia J.L.
Patricia writes fantasy and sci-fi stories that allow you a quick break from your busy day. Her upcoming book, “A Quick Test,” is a collection of dozens of micro-fiction Science Fiction stories—each clocking in at exactly 200 words.
To sample one of these lightning-fast stories, check out “Go Up,” which manages to squeeze a fresh perspective on the zombie genre into a tidy package.
William Pauley III
William writes Doom Fiction — Psychedelic stories for adventurous readers. Proceed with caution!
In his sample story, “Bad Blood,” a volunteer nurse winds up giving much more than she bargained for, after an unusual house call.
Paid subscribers get access to William’s back catalogue, exclusive articles, and a choose-your-own adventure novel!
Thank You For Reading
On behalf of myself, and all the other authors, thank you for taking the time to read and sample what we have to offer. Your support makes a huge difference in the lives of these independent creators!
If you are an author who missed the original posting date, but still wants to join the sale: shoot me a DM on Substack notes, and I’ll try to add your offer to the list.
Great job of posting about books on the Amazon sale. I know authors will appreciate it.
Hi Cole. Many swear words issuing from my mouth - I completely forgot to do this, because I didn't add it to my todo list! Grrrr. My own fault!
Regardless, this is a wonderful collection and you've put it together so beautifully.
