Free Stories at Your Fingertips — Author Notes #4
Welcome newcomers! I've put together a compilation of my favorite stories you can access with your subscription to Cole's Chapters; plus a contest where you can win some fantastic books and prizes.
Quite a few newcomers have joined me in the last week! Welcome, and thank you for coming to check out my collection of speculative fiction. This seems like a good opportunity to bundle together my favorite stories that you might have missed.
First though, I am participating in a Halloween giveaway for readers, with a few other authors. If you’re interested in the books you see here, you can click the button below to be taken to the entry page. It’s a chance to win a pretty nice prize pool, and discover some great indie authors while you’re at it!
Free Stories
Cole’s Chapters works on an archive system; the Stasis Collection is currently free. When it comes to an end — estimated early December — a new collection will begin. The current slate of stories will move into my paid archives.
For now though, you can read away!
This may be both my strangest, and favorite piece I can remember writing. Slighted in a bitter divorce, Charles Brookfield unwittingly hires an otherworldly attorney to win back his wasted years. But his services can't be paid for with money
A group of college friends are on their way to try and see a passing comet, but struggle with a creeping feeling they’ve done this all before
If you’re looking for something on the shorter side: a new mother is horrified to find what her young daughter is growing up to become, and wonders if their dream home really is a safe place for a child to grow up
Looking for something Longer? In this serial novella, a rogue group of radio DJ’s aims to help bring people together, in a world where face-to-face interactions are usually deadly.
Montauk has 13 chapters, and is exactly halfway through its run. That makes now a great time to jump on board!
Paid Perks
I mentioned earlier: after the Stasis collection wraps in a few months, it will become paid access only, and another series of free stories will begin their release run.
To make your subscription worthwhile, Stasis contains a few extra stories for paying members only!
Travelers use the Green Door to pass warnings back through time, preventing catastrophic events that would lead humanity down the wrong path. Only the Travelers know what lays beyond the threshold. But when a stranger comes knocking, the price for information is high
Catherine Kaplan’s nightmarish advances in medical technology saved lives during a deadly viral outbreak. But one of her former patients sees it differently
Outpatient
(upcoming) A coerced organ donor receives his reward, and wonders what kind of life he has secured for himself
Released to Elsewhere
(upcoming) Jacob is the only living person who knows how the world will end. Can he leverage this information to escape his powerful captors?
Nelson Nemo’s Koi Pond Conundrum
(upcoming) Nelson is researching the supernatural cause of a weather anomaly: a crystal clear lake that is always mirror-calm. When locals start going missing, his shady employer sends him a partner to help get to the bottom of the disappearances
If these stories aren’t enough to convince you; your subscriptions are also helping me bring my first short story collection to market. I’ve priced out the cost of formatting, editing, promotional material, and cover design to be about $700.
I really believe in this collection, and if you do too, signing up means the world to me. I understand that times are tough. If you still would like to support my writing, but can’t spare a membership right now, sharing posts like this one is another fantastic way you can help me as an author.
Hope you found something in this email bundle you’re excited to read. I look forward to having you here!
P.S. I always love feedback. You can either do that by leaving a comment, or replying directly to this email in your inbox. (I actually prefer the latter option, because it helps improve my standing in the email delivery world. Yes, that is a thing!
